Bilfinger Salzburg constructing a full-scale CHP plant as general contractor

August 13, 2014

The district heating system in Rülzheim is receiving a new central power station. The municipal utility is investing a total of EUR 4.7 million for this purpose. Bilfinger Industrietechnik Salzburg is the general contractor for the new combined heat and power plant, which will be replacing three existing plants and simultaneously reducing operating costs. The project is scheduled for completion in 2014.

Rülzheim has had district heating since 1981 and the municipal utility is currently converting the network from a single-line to a dual-line system. The new dual-line system is far more efficient and requires only a single modern combined heat and power plant instead of the previous three. This reduces energy and electricity consumption, while lowering maintenance and repair costs.

The contract awarded to Bilfinger Industrietechnik Salzburg entails the delivery and assembly of the entire combined heat and power plant as a general contractor. This includes the construction of the building, all the technical systems (combined heat and power station, gas boiler, smokestack, buffer storage, pressure maintenance, water provisioning, piping including valves, ventilation and thermal insulation, E/I&C, transformer) as well as the start-up of the entire system.
