Bilfinger Industrietechnik Salzburg with new facilities in Puch/Urstein

October 12, 2016

As its business is performing so well, Bilfinger Industrietechnik Salzburg must now invest in a larger head office. For this reason, it is constructing an office building and fabrication and assembly facilities at the Puch/Urstein business estate. The topping-out ceremony was held on 11 October, with the new head office to go into operation in the first half of next year.

With more than 300 core employees, Bilfinger Industrietechnik Salzburg engineers, fabricates and assembles production systems for the biotechnology/pharmaceuticals industry as well as the semiconductor and energy sectors. Recently, the company has been growing sharply, increasing its headcount by one third in four years, with sales almost doubling in the same period. As a result of this business performance, the company’s head office in the Schallmoos part of Salzburg has reached its limits. There is not enough office space for the planning engineers and project managers, while it has been necessary to lease external space for the fabrication of large items of equipment.

This problem is now to be solved with the construction of new facilities at the Puch/Urstein business estate. “At our new location, we will be able to execute even larger projects in Salzburg and offer our employees better working conditions,” explains CEO Tobias Eitel. Office, fabrication and assembly buildings on land with an area of around 10,000 square metres are planned. A hall with a ceiling height of 10 metres „below the hook“ will provide the necessary space to assemble substantially larger items of equipment than is currently possible at the company’s present facilities.

The finance for the investment project has been provided by RBI-Leasing in the form of a real estate leasing contract. Georg Honzig, managing director of RBI-Leasing GmbH, is pleased to be working with Bilfinger again: “With this project, we were able to convince our customer of the advantages offered by real estate leasing. The fact that we are fully within budget and on time is not least of all due to our internal construction management department, which has been overseeing the project since the planning phase.”

The new location is also important for the continued internationalisation of the company’s business. The Salzburg-based company is already supplying its products to customers across Europe as well as China and other Asian countries. In the last few months, it has received contracts with a combined value of around € 60 million from three industrial pharmaceutical companies for the construction and expansion of biotechnology process equipment at production sites in Ireland, Belgium and Denmark. For these three contracts, Bilfinger Salzburg will be fabricating and assembling around 60 kilometres of piping and installing systems with a total length of 50 metres, a width of six metres and a height of 6.5 metres. In all three cases, main activities such as planning and fabrication have been completed at the company’s head office in Salzburg.
